Good product with great customer service

My initial reviews on this were 2 and then 1. Jordan at Plugable reached out to offer help. I emailed him and we went through all my questions. As it turned out, most of my problems had real explanations, not dock issues. Jordan patiently listened to, summarized and answered all of my questions where he could. In addition, he offered to send me a new device or even refund my money. even though my return period has expired. One of my problems was that the dock didn't recognize drives formatted with the Sabrent dock, which I also have. This was because the plug-in docking station supports advanced formatting for drives 3TB or larger, while many other docking stations support sector emulation. While Plugable has opted for a standard way, there are still many existing docks that don't. Turns out the Sabrent dock had a firmware update to fix this. Just in case anyone stumbles upon it. In the end I decided to keep the module I had. The other docks I have are flat docks which make it difficult to remove 2.5" drives. The vertical dock makes this much easier. However, there are a couple of little things that (for me) keep this from being a 5 star hotel. no protection against the ingress of dust. While this doesn't matter to some, it's a problem for me. Ideally, I'd like to keep this on my desk. But I won't always have a disc in it. For now I've removed it when I'm done, so it's impractical for my use case. That's why I chose the Sabrent as it was a flat dock with a lid. This problem seems to be common to all vertical docks regardless of brand. it's a bit expensive. It's USB-C, of course, and you're paying to be an early adopter (in the sense that there aren't many USB-C docks out there right now). I originally got this because I upgraded to a late 2016 MBP which is all USB-C. If you don't use fast SSDs, you won't get the fast potential of this dock. Overall I am happy with my purchase. and I'm more than willing to support companies like Plugable that care about their products and their customers.
