As it's a niche recording format and now considered obsolete, it's difficult to find new blank minidiscs; often the price is astronomical because they are so rare. Hell, the only reason I have a home stereo MD recorder is because I found a blank Sony MDS-JE330 deck at Goodwill a few years ago for $12.99. (This is a fantastic entry-level unit, by the way!) So far I've only used Sony 74-Minute Color Collection MDW-74 discs and a couple of TDK discs that I bought in bulk off eBay a while back. I've never had a problem with it, and playback of recorded discs via OpenMD on my MZ-N505 Minidisc Walkman has been very good. I was very excited to try the Neige line at such a great price! As amateur audiophiles, let me tell you that the sound reproduction of the Neige range is different day and night! The bass is tighter, the highs are crisper and I tried the new MDW-74 and the new Neige 80 with the same songs and the same settings. For comparison, I connected my J330 to a computer with an analog (RCA) input. I am very happy with the performance of the Neige Discs and will most likely be buying more in the near future. The older MDW-74's are great, but if you have sensitive ears and are looking for that extra clarity then the Neige is for you!
