Review on πŸ•―οΈ Hearts & Crafts Soy Wax and DIY Candle Making Supplies - 5lb Bag with 100 6-Inch Pre-Waxed Wicks, 2 Centering Tools by Morgan Gilmore

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great starter set - four stars (currently .)

Candle making for Christmas was a family tradition when I was little and when my father took over. I wanted to get back to tradition (honoring it) so I bought this starter kit for my first solo trip. This is a standard kit for beginners - there are good ones and not so good ones. I will update my review as I continue to experiment - these are just my first impressions of the product. (At the time of this writing I have not lit any candles to check the wicks): Wax: VERY easy to work with. It melts well and absorbs color evenly. It is odorless but also seems to absorb the essential oil evenly. A bit greasy - I spilled some on my hands and it turned out - good lotion! However, I was concerned - so I went back online to read the reviews! - Wicks: SUPER weak! It takes a lot of work to fix them and even then it was very difficult for me to get them to sit straight in the bench. - Wick centering: I thought it would make life easier - but to be honest I haven't used wick centering yet. I make candles in Oui yogurt jars and the centralizer is too big for the jars. I remember a trick my father taught me: attach wicks to a cupboard and hang them in jars. This works best for me, but because the wicks are so short, I have to come up with a high, flat surface to properly hang the wick in my jars. Not a big deal - just not the "starter kit" I was hoping for. I'm still in the process of making some candles - I'll update this with more info on the wick as it burns. After reading the reviews I wondered if people were using glasses that were too big. As I said, I'm using Oui cans (and will be moving to 4" cans), so maybe that makes a difference?
