Contrary to the description, they also work great with 6-piston calipers when using the supplied magnetic plates. I have used them successfully on my Audi S8 (400mm discs, 6-piston calipers). They work quite well but I have two main complaints hence my 3 star rating. First, they don't have a large range of motion. This means they couldn't get thin enough to spread my calipers with both pads installed, but they also couldn't get thick enough to spread my calipers without pads installed. This meant the only way to get them working was to install a shim. A little annoying. Second, and much more annoying, they can only expand or contract when you put pressure on them. This means that when using it it would be very useful to have 3 hands: one hand to operate the lever, one hand to apply pressure to the spacer plates and one hand to hold the caliper in place. Mine may have been flawed and shouldn't be necessary, but I have a feeling it's poor design.
