I ordered this rack about a month before a week long ski trip from Texas to Colorado. A week before the trip I unpacked it and started with the pre-assembly. What bothered me at the time was that the brackets looked sturdy, but were made of plastic. Just one concern. A few days before leaving I installed a trunk on my Mazda CX-9. The problem was with the mounting screws. The unthreaded portion did not allow the clamps to be fully tightened. Also, the studs are so long that they get very close to the roof of the car, which can damage the paintwork. The bars I use are the very common 1" Malone bars. It really should have worked! The company supplies rubber washers between the two pieces of each mounting bracket, but they don't seem to be strong enough to handle the torque required when tightening of the screws.As you can see in the photos my solution was to buy nylon spacers and install them over the brackets.I also put a washer over the spacer.It was a pain and I would have 1 or Given 2 stars if the rack didn't work so well Once installed the stand could hold 4 pairs of all skis or 3 pairs with 3 pairs of poles They are very strong No problems with the plastic bracket The screws have turned in never loosened the whole 8 days even though I checked them.Every day I took the skis off the rack and put them in the car so they wouldn't be stolen.Am They returned to the counter tomorrow. The key lock works great, as does the large release button. There were no problems during the journey. And the stand was functional and easy to use. I think if the screws were fully threaded and a bit shorter or if they were 2 lengths the installation problem would be solved, although it's still a bit of a hassle just starting from where it is and fitting all the parts to the screws. But this is a very good bag for the money. Overall a good experience!
