Big disappointment. I want a refund

I bought this scanner specifically for the live data feature instead of a cheaper one. When I hooked it up to my 1997 Mazda b4000, it didn't display real-time fuel trim data (although there was a PID for it). This was a disappointment as I saw two pros using much more expensive Autel scanners reading real time fuel trims from this very same car. I then found Autel's customer service and upgrade system EXTREMELY disappointing. I called Autel support and they asked me to wait. I was held up for about 15 minutes before the record simply asked me to leave my number. Finally they called me back. The person on the other end asked me to update the device and call them back. I didn't think this would fix the problem as 1997 is the first year of OBD2 so there is no point in updating the device to work with 1997 but I went to the website to update it. definitely. The autel rep told me to download the "maxi pc suite" which turned out to be not even the right update client for my product. After realizing this, I downloaded the correct update client and attempted to update the device. The update system is very primitive and, if it works at all, needs more explanation than autel provides. You get two files, I assume one is the code library and the other is the operating system, but there is no explanation as to which is which. After trying to update the reader, it stopped communicating with my truck and I couldn't try to update again. I deeply regret this purchase and would like my money back, but unfortunately I was too busy to return it in time.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Minor issues
