The ends of the pins are not tight enough (ie too small) for the Vivoactive3. The photo I'm attaching shows the Vivoactive3 pin next to the Barton next to the Big Tang. That's why some reviews are saying the band is leaving. By the way, the Barton pins also seem too small. I reused pins from my old Vivoactive3 strap. I hope this works long term. The pens should work. It's too hard to move the pins between the ribbons to fiddle with until the ribbon breaks.
