After consulting the Apple forum, I got the answer that I might need a USB 3.0 USB-C to USB-C cable. So I did a search and the ONLY cable that mentions USB 3.1 10Gb/s support is from Belkin: The Belkin 3-Foot 3.1 USB Type C (USB-C) is a USB Type C USB-C Certified Cable. And I tested with a Macbook, it correctly recognized the USB 3.0 speed and pushed the speed to the limit. Photo 7-8 So, finally. If you want to get the best performance from a USB-C cable, make sure your USB-C cable supports at least 5Gbps transfer rates. And some cables like Apple's USB-C, Google's USB-C, Anker's USB-C only support 480Mbps, which is the USB 2.0 standard for data transfer. ---------------- Old review ---------------- I bought this because of the USB support to work with my MacBook Retina 12' to use - But there's a real problem with using this drive with a USB-C to USB-C cable: when you use it with an Apple USB-C to USB-C cable, you get They only use USB 2.0 speed, which is limited to 40 MB/s. s at the entrance and exit. As shown in Photo 1-3 below. When used with the included USB-A to USB-C cable, you get USB 3.0 speeds of 400MB/s with an output of 425MB/s. However, the downside is that the MacBook requires you to use a USB-C to USB-A adapter, as shown in Photo 4-6. Bottom line: if you bought it for the convenience of USB-C and universal support, you'll be disappointed to find that the USB 2.0 standard severely limits speeds. For the best performance, you should use a USB-A to USB-C cable, which puts it back in the same category as a microUSB cable: you need an adapter for it to work at full speed.
