later Bad idea. I'm sure my washing machine hose, like most, goes into a riser in the wall. With a screen at the end, the back end of the screen is filled with lint first. Then, as more lint accumulates on the sides of those things, the screen swells until it hits the riser wall. And it blocks the riser. The good news is that lint doesn't end up down the drain. The bad news is that water will collect in the riser and drip onto the floor. This requires a rigid containment sleeve that allows water to flow.
