I'm strict with cameras. I don't take good care of her. They get wet, fall, tumble, run over, sit down, get gnawed at by a dog, left out in the rain, fall in a river, fall off a cliff, freeze in my backpack, get mutilated by three year olds and so on comes along using nature to do fun things. I used to go through the dot every year and take the camera off. At the same time, I have had this camera for almost 5 years and it still works. By now I should have run through at least 4 cameras at my usual speed. This is a really solid camera. She takes everything I give her and gives back more. This camera takes good pictures. If you're looking for a point and shoot camera, you won't be disappointed with the images this camera captures. It also takes good pictures under water. The menus are easy to understand and the camera is easy to operate without having to read the instructions. That's pretty intuitive. Preset modes work quite well, you can see the difference between preset and auto mode. There are enough presets for almost every situation, but not many to choose the right one. I like the night presets best, and the long exposure setting allows for interesting shots. Most of the time I leave the camera on auto and just set up the flash. The video quality is acceptable and my computer imports the video as a QuickTime file so the files can be used for uploading to the web or editing in Imovie or similar applications. The battery life is pretty good. About 300 shots are typically taken between charges. Scrolling through the images does drain the battery. The camera takes a long time to load. I've missed many animal photos waiting for my camera to turn on. Overall, the camera isn't what I would call "fast". It takes a few seconds before he's ready to take the picture again. This forces you to plan your shots a bit as you have to factor in the sluggish response. The autofocus works very well most of the time, but sometimes it will focus on the subject and it's very difficult to get it to change the aim. me. I'm by no means a photographer and the pictures get so tall that I regularly print them out and hang them around my house for everyone to see. If I ever manage to break this camera I will definitely replace it with another Olympus Tough camera.
