Possible for butter at room temperature.
Real cheese pulls on the wire and looks more like a noose than a knife. It's really completely useless, although it looks good. We bought 3 thinking they might be good in our caravan and one as a spare. All 3 were the same. useless. Don't even think about using them for cheddar cheese.
