A practical solution to the battery dilemma

This set of three smoke and carbon monoxide alarms work the same as all similar alarms but with a ten year battery difference. Installation is fairly standard but requires the use of screws (with or without anchors). First, mount the baseplate in place using the hardware provided (you get all the screws and anchors you might need). You then push and twist to snap the actual smoke/carbon monoxide detector assembly onto the plastic mounting plate. The instructions that accompany these smoke/carbon monoxide alarms will give you very specific recommendations as to where to place them to maximize their effectiveness. As with all similar smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, you should test them regularly (manufacturer recommends weekly tests) to ensure they are working properly so despite the long battery life they do not require full maintenance. . It also means that ideally you want to place them where they're still within reach to press the key needed to run the test. They also recommend vacuuming and wiping down your alarm clock once a year to keep it working at its best. After ten years, you must permanently deactivate the detectors and then dispose of them. To do this, you need to pierce the seal from behind and press the button under it. The reason for this is not so much the battery, but that the detector is no longer considered reliable in detecting smoke and carbon monoxide after this service life. Keeping track of the deadline is probably their biggest problem as we don't typically track time in 10-year increments. However, with a permanent marker and some forethought, you can set up mechanisms to help you keep track when you need to start looking for replacement detectors. so they get new smoke/carbon monoxide alarms on their big day) Finally, this is a very important safety device to have in your home and you hope it never gets used beyond occasional testing to make sure it is works correctly. As someone who hates buying batteries and swapping them out at least once a year, these three sets of smoke/carbon monoxide alarms are perfect for me. Of course, you still need to come up with a plan. Keep track of the age of these detectors so at the end of a decade of use you'll know when it's time for new ones. Given how devastating fires and carbon monoxide poisoning can be, I think these three sets of detectors are a very worthy investment in your safety and peace of mind.

Pros
  • Combined smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
