Review on 🎡 Audio-Technica AT-VM95EN Dual Moving Magnet Turntable Cartridge Orange: Unleash Your Audio Experience! by Will Schimmel

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not terrible, but not great either.

This AT cartridge is not a bad cartridge but it doesn't compare to the Nagaoka MP-110 which I also just bought and compared to using identical sleeves MP -110 VTF at 1.8g and Audio Technica at 2.0g, both within recommended ranges. BTW, the downforce range for the AT is perhaps the tightest I've seen - 1.8-2.2g. As in the case of the Nagaoka cartridge, this AT cartridge is also clearly intended for larger tonearms. Do not attempt to mount this cartridge in a light cartridge fired weapon. You will be disappointed. And a nitpick: the needle guard is poorly constructed, fits very loosely, and slips off at the slightest provocation; not very well thought out. So, AT is back today. Why? Slightly brighter than the Nagaoka, at least in my setup, but most importantly significantly more surface noise than the MP-110. Was another supposed hack necessary, a concept I've raised an eyebrow at for years? May be. But there won't be a chance.

Pros
  • Compatible with any at-vmn95 replacement stylus
Cons
  • No power
