Review on Amcrest 3840X2160 Weatherproof Microphone IP8M T2669EW AI by Carlos Krueger

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good wide angle surveillance camera. Read the description to get 4K@30fps

The video quality is really good. I really like face recognition and it works great for my setup. I use it in Home Assistant for motion detection to bring up the video feed. I couldn't use this feature when using the non-AI camera as it was triggered when cars drove by and not when there was a person in the driveway. I had a few issues that were quite annoying and took a long time to figure out, which aren't necessarily the camera's fault, but I'll mention them anyway. Hence the reason I gave 4 stars. Initial setup The first problems were getting the camera to do 4K at 30fps. This is not possible when using the AI features, but 20 fps is actually still pretty good for face recognition. I don't know why, but there was nothing in the box that I could know about. Default camera with AI enabled so you can't get the FPS listed in the description. I hope they figure out how to use AI and 4K at 30 fps. I was about to return it because I hate false advertising but when I returned to Revain I noticed a disclaimer in the item description. I disabled AI and BAM 4k @ 30fps was an option. Now it was a problem for me to get a smooth 4K @ 30fps video, but after a while I finally managed to do it by tweaking the setting and lowering the bitrate to smooth with H.265. Using it with Amcrest NVRI configures the camera through the WEBUI, which is what I do with every new camera. I updated the firmware and played with the features. So now I'm trying to add it to my NVR. This is where I start to have non-camera related issues. The NVR has a virtual host function that allows you to access your WEBUI cameras. I can't access the webui on this camera and it took me hours to figure out the problem. I thought it had something to do with the camera but eventually found out that the web providers had blacklisted one of the ports (10080) on the dash cam and unfortunately this camera was assigned that port, now Chrome, Firefox and Edge does not let me connect to the webui of this camera. The NVR does not have the option to use a different port range, so hopefully Amcrest will update their NVRs to allow manual port ranges to avoid this issue in the future. So for now my job is to access the web interface with my internet phone app (samsung internet) until that gets blocked too. in front of my house, but this camera never switches to night mode. I rotated it because I'm not sure where the light sensor is, but nothing helps. The camera is installed under my eaves. The camera I had prior to the IP8M-2493EW had no problem switching to night mode. I tried adjusting the sensitivity, it doesn't help. So I'm stuck to change it manually or leave it. So for now I won't switch to night mode until I find a solution.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • There are nuances
