You get what you pay for and in this case it's definitely worth the modest price. First the positives: The most important part, the blade, is definitely high quality stainless steel. I keep mine in a drawer in the bathroom and have NOT seen the slightest hint of discoloration after about a month. The blade is a good hard stainless steel so it sharpens REALLY clean and holds an edge well. After sharpening, mine can now cut hair without touching skin. (Mostly standard razor sharpness) The scale (handle) is made of natural wood and feels good. Overall the fit is snug and I didn't notice any lateral shift at the pivot point between the blade and scales. Overall a very comfortable shaver. Cons: Finish could be better, blade not perfectly centered between scales. Viewed from the side, the spine appears slightly asymmetrical. However, I have to note that the spine didn't cause any problems when shaving or sharpening, so I personally only see it as a cosmetic issue. Finally, you need to sharpen the blade 100%. The blade is sharp, but sharp and sharp enough to shave are two completely different things. Summary: First off, for $15 you get a razor that's made out of great materials, if perhaps not the best fit and finish. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Low prices shouldn't come with high expectations but I can say I was pleasantly surprised and still happy with my purchase. Second, if you can't or don't want to sharpen on a stone, I would suggest looking at higher priced models that only require sharpening to begin with (so they'll eventually need to be sharpened on a stone). think so) or buy a razor with a disposable blade. If you're new to straight razors, you're probably going to ruin your first one anyway. So you can just use this as an apprentice and save yourself a few bucks so you can get the sharpening and sharpening you need no matter what razor you buy. Unless you pay someone to grind for you. But that defeats the purpose of owning a straight razor, don't you think?
