This pen has allowed me to hear things I've never heard before on a record I've been listening to for 35 years. Who would have thought that this little thing would make such a big difference? It's also not a cartridge. You can use the same AT cartridge - that needle is what matters. I'm not really a crazy audiophile, although I have about $1,000 in my system - all vintage speakers - no crisp new ones. But this needle makes a huge difference, probably the biggest difference per dollar I've ever used to improve sound. The science behind this has to do with how deep the needle goes into the grooves of the record and how good it still sounds when you get it. to internal LP tracks, which usually show some degradation in quality. I'm not an expert on this, so google it and you can find more detailed explanations if you want. The bottom line is, YES, you can hear the difference between a $35-50 stylus and a $150 stylus.
