My office gave me an HP EliteBook 840 laptop and I hated its glossy screen. It reflected everything unless you turned off the lights or set the screen at the right angle, which wasn't always the best for viewing and working. I ordered a protector from Revain and it arrived quickly as usual. You need to be careful and patient during installation. Prep: I cleaned it 2-3 times with a non-ammonia cleaning spray and a dust-free microfiber cloth, making sure it was free of dust, food particles, fingerprints, etc. Then I cleaned it up again and looked at it in a bright light to catch the highlights and see if I missed anything! I tried using the dust removal sticker that came with it, but it didn't work. A microfiber cloth is included, but it's only the size of a credit card, making it difficult to use. To sum it up, be prepared to provide your own cleaning supplies and don't skimp on this step. Installation: Begin pulling back the backsheet with #1 on it, but only expose about 1-2 inches along the SHORT side. Align 1 inch of the open side parallel to the edge of the screen. The straighter it is, the better it will look. There is no other way to change this after application than to remove the entire tread, so pull and re-tap if necessary before proceeding. After smoothing the film, SLOWLY peel back the film and gently press the release liner - take your time - this will help minimize the formation of bubbles. After applying the protective film, use the supplied plastic card to remove any bubbles. Surprisingly, it worked pretty well and was easy to do. Be sure to check all areas of the screen for bubbles. It's easier to get them out now than to wait. Finally, remove the top protective film number 2 and you are done. I did this at night and let the laptop sit for a few hours before using it to ensure the protection was 'set' a little more permanently. I don't know if this is necessary, but I felt it warranted to prevent it from peeling around the edges. Use: For me the protector needed to eliminate glare, which it does very well. Even under bright fluorescent lighting, I can't see any reflections off the screen's screen protector (the black frame around the screen remains open and glossy). I can't judge whether the protector actually protects against scratches and damage, but helps against fingerprints. I don't have to clean the screen every hour or two because of screen smudges. The sharpness is somewhat lost due to the matte surface. I noticed it straight away and didn't like it at first, but after a day or two I got used to it. The elimination of glare was much more important than a slight loss of sharpness. Please note that this is NOT a privacy screen, so it will not prevent passers-by from seeing what's on your screen. Rating: 4 stars, 1 star deduction due to insufficient installation tools and slight loss of sharpness, but still recommended!
