Review on G Technology 0G06052 G Drive Portable Storage by Ryan Carter

The new leader in affordable and portable SSDs. I've been doing a lot of video editing lately, mostly digitizing and restoring old VHS tapes. The files I generate usually start at 80GB, so while this purchase was a whim, it was more of a necessity. I also recently bought a Samsung T5 for the same purpose and it's as good as the lack of reviews on it. It's a bit smaller and lighter than the G-Drive, but I'd prefer the G-Drive to get the extra rugged qualities. In terms of speed, the G-Drive and T5 are incredibly fast for external drives, so I'm not disappointed that I didn't go with an internal SATA drive. The G-Drive specs are slightly higher than the T5, but there's no noticeable speed difference in my usage. The G-Drive and T5 blew me away with both 3.0 and 3.1 connections - I've never used an external drive at this speed. I will definitely buy another G-Drive SSD R as I prefer the secure features and is generally (though not always) better priced than the T5 per GB. I don't regret buying the T5, I think the price will probably come down for most people considering these two. Windows users should reformat the G-Drive because your computer won't recognize it. If you absolutely don't need cross-platform use between MAC and PC, just format the drive to NTFS as it is more stable than exFAT. The G Technologies support pages have very detailed instructions on how to reformat the OS to NTFS and exFAT.
