Odd smell from luggage and travel gear

I ordered this bag a few months ago. I don't usually write reviews, but this bag had a very strong weird chemical smell. My whole room smelled. Tried to air on the street, wash (several times). The smell became a little less intense, but nothing helped. I liked the bag so I left it in the closet hoping the smell would dissipate over time but no luck. The whole closet smells like that backpack now.
