Mysterious Substance. - Humidifier

At first I liked the product and it gave 5 stars, and then, after about a week of intensive use, the mist began to smell. There are beads you can hear rattling between where you pour water and the tank, but I didn't realize they smelled. When the tank is cleaned, the insides are covered in red residue from this mystery. Nowhere on the seller's page is it indicated that there is some sort of built-in flavor. Very frustrating.
