Solid in a good way, the matte finish lends itself well to duplicate spreadsheets. When working with graphics, I preferred a medium-wide, glossy monitor. Now I'm more of a managerial role and it's two spreadsheets on an ultra-wide 29-inch matte screen. The base is cheap plastic, but it does the job, and my 15-inch Surface Book or 13-inch MacBook fits snugly in the crescent-shaped stand. HP used real brushed metal a few years ago, so I was expecting a metal stand.
