Review on πŸ”‹ Ansmann AA 2850mAh 4pk Slimline Version: Enhanced Performance for Power-Hungry Devices by Jessica Shakman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The power of SlimLine!

These batteries were almost fully charged when received. I have used several Ansmann 2850 kits in my high power camera over the last 4-5 years and two kits last at least two years with almost daily use (after that I use them in a less power hungry camera). , swap them out to charge as needed, charging one while the other is in use so I never "wait" for charged batteries. I decided to try this "thin" version for the first time. - not because of the smaller 0.15mm diameter (not a problem with my cameras, although sometimes a problem with some professional broadcast microphones) - as they are fully rated at 2850mAh and for high/continuous current draw applications. While an Ansmann 2850 "regular diameter" might only be 2650 (if you read the fine print) this slim "Pro" version is full rated at 2850mAh and while still using the first kit I have it so far Charged so far I lasted three days [edit: 5 days] of daily intermittent use and the camera still shows a full charge so I'm glad it's a good choice. Should this not be the case for a long time, I will update this review, but I assume that they are up to the task. BTW I've tried other "big brands" in the past as well as some lesser known 2900 and 3000mah NiMhs and none could match these Ansmanns, especially in cold weather and this is based on the regular 2850 (2650min) Ansmanns that I have have used. There is clearly a ratings game with NiMh batteries, as evidenced by the controlled reviews I've read, but these Ansmann Slim Lines appear to be one of the few (and possibly the only ones with a 2800+ rating) that are actually tested and work as advertised. It seems like those with a rating below 2500 are more likely to match or come close to their ratings, but I don't know of any reviews at/above 2700mAh that consistently match, except for this one. If I ever find them, I'll definitely try them because what counts for me is real performance, not false marketing numbers, which can sometimes be true under certain unrealistic conditions. In short, these Ansmanns consistently work in the real world. As with all NiMhs, their performance (total true capacity and idle rate of discharge) begins to drop in the short term, but the Ansmanns have proven satisfactory even after two full years of daily use - when switched to a less voracious chamber. (for another 12-18 months). I see a lot of talk about a good Enerloop experience, but while I love the Enerloop idea, they just don't have anywhere near the capacity/performance of these batteries - even their highest ratings. In short, they've become my go-to NiMh battery pack. and if someone else comes along that's supposed to be better, I'll be the first to switch - for me, only really reliable performance counts.
