I have had two E39's that I have replaced the factory cup holders on. In the first car I used a different brand but when I saw this model with a slot between two cups I realized I would have a place for my phone. When the phone is in the slot and I make a sharp turn, the phone pops out, but it's fine in normal driving. If you have a BMW E39 and you want the best cup holder, don't wait a minute! Which is the worst that can happen. You pull this out again and replace your original cup holders. But you don't want that :-).
