Review on Hakko 980 V12 Presto Soldering Iron by Tyler Owens

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Works but Hakko FX-600 is much better

Edit: Downgraded from 4 stars to 2 because Hakko FX-600 is much better value for money, is more ergonomic, electronic temperature control, adjustable, heats up faster and has a much better tip selection. I use the (genuine Hakko) Japanese version sold here at Revain, USA (B006MQD7M4) which is about half the price of the Hakko model in the US market. I use this soldering iron for soldering wires and I love the turbo button that speeds up the initial heat up (I hold it down for about 30 seconds, don't overdo it). The cone tip is useless but Amazon has a replacement bit tip that is much better than the B00V62MR5W. One star off due to the high price, even considering it's a brand.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
