Screws are difficult to install because they are not self-drilling and the metal is so cheap they can be tapped even if the holes are drilled. I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE a terribly cheap bar too. My 18 month old daughter can open it and ruin the finish! This is a two stage opening process that opens in one direction only and DOES NOT latch when closed. You have to block it manually. Also, the bars are spaced so far apart that my 10-15 pound dog can literally squeeze through the bars, defeating the purpose! Separating my child from my pets doesn't work! I would send it back but there are two screws screwed into the wall so I can't remove it.
