As many have said they come compressed. Don't panic, put one in a bucket of water and it will expand. It applies tire to tire smoothly. The bottom line is that the hands stay clean and I give 5 stars for that. For durability I only gave it 4 stars as I've only used it 3 or 4 times and we all know we've been using the same sponge for a lot longer so we'll see.
