I was watching some video reviews and decided to try the Black Widow Scorpion Edition. You arrived today. Pencils are pre-sharpened and all intact. I've been drawing since the 1990's before it was fashionable and have used many brands of colored pencils including Prismacolor Premier, Faber Castell and Marco Reffine. Marco Refine is a hard pen that I like to use for grayscale coloring. I tested and mixed these Scorpions against Faber Castell and Prismacolor Premier. I was impressed! The Scorpion version is in no way inferior to Prismacolor and Faber Castell! This means it blends reasonably well but doesn't beat Prismacolor and is more in line with Faber Castell but slightly softer. However, I have found that some of the crayons in the set are a bit softer than others. Being limited in number, these pens are a great addition to your regular pens. A very nice addition. I've tried a few pens in a grayscale coloring book and it's about as good as Prismacolor Premier. For me, this means that I prefer a harder pen when working with grayscale. Layering I've tried multiple pens and ended up with 4 to 5 layers. My rating is currently 4.5 stars!
