I love my new Primula Melrose Hot Coffee/Tea Maker with French Press. First off, let me say that out of the four colors available, I chose red because it's just gorgeous! My Hyundai Elantra is bright red, and my parents' Cadillac is bright red too. Many of my kitchen appliances are bright red. Second, this French Press works just like the others I've owned with a few exceptions. The body of the Primula Melrose French Press is made of glass, not metal. I like it because I can see what's going on in the French press. For metal I can only guess. With a vitreous I know exactly how far I can push the plunger into the glass. However, I have to use a rubber spatula to stir up coarse coffee grounds or tea leaves. A metal spoon can break the jar's borosilicate glass. On the plus side, the large glass tumbler is removable from the red metal body for easy cleaning. The filter is the standard filter used in most other French press machines and appears to be removable. The Primula Melrose French Press makes eight cups of coffee or tea. However, these are 4 ounce Demitasse cups and not the regular 8 ounce cups we typically use in America. This is explained on the Revain website for this kitchen product. In addition, the machine was accompanied by clear, easy to read and understandable operating instructions. Basically, this is a beautiful, well-made, handcrafted French press that looks great in my kitchen. It reminds me of a work of metallurgical art. It also looks very strong and durable and will last for years with proper care and cleaning. I have used the Primula Melrose French Press many times to make delicious coffee and tea for myself and my parents. They loved coffee and tea as much as I did. We are all big coffee and tea lovers. I recently retired and bought a house across the street from my parents. Every morning I bring them freshly brewed coffee. I also grind my own coffee. Freshly ground coffee works best in a Primula Melrose French Press. Purchased ground coffee is too fine and can clog the filter. I also have a graduated Pyrex measuring cup that I use to measure water. Then I cook it in the microwave. That saves me time. The Primula Melrose French Press is also very easy to care for. I gently tap the rim of the bin with the glass and knock out as much of the coffee grounds as I can. I then use a paper towel to remove any leftovers. (I don't like putting too much coffee grounds in the kitchen sink to keep it from clogging.) I soak the mug, filter, and plunger in warm, soapy water, then dry them off. Borosilicate glass almost looks like a combination of plastic and glass. When touched, it appears stronger than ordinary glass. However, I don't want to test it lest I break it. Overall, I like the Primula Melrose French Press. Makes a great gift for a coffee or tea lover.
