Review on πŸ”§ Melling M176 Oil Pump: High Performance for 4.6L V8 Engine - Top Quality Guaranteed by Bobby Aghetoni

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Melling needs a large capacity pump for 5.4 liter 2V and 4.6 liter 2V engines, not these

Melling manufactures a standard wet end and an extended wet end for the 3V motor. Melling really only needs to sell the improved design for the 2V and 3V motors, but they don't have the improved 2V design. This M176 Melling part offers no advantage over the genuine Ford Motorcraft part. When I pulled my oil pump out (since I changed the timing chain and labor is a major time and cost factor) I found that the original pump was in excellent condition. Since this M176 pump no longer pumps oil, there is no real benefit in replacing the original pump. (I did, the new one instead of the old one, but the original pump looked perfect.) If Melling had made an improved design I would have known that installing a new pump would give me an increased supply of oil, even if the old pump worked flawlessly is working. . (This engine can use all the extra oil flow it can get). I suspect Melling has determined that the target market for 2v motors is too small to mess around with an improved 2v pump design, but they have one for 3v motors, so the question is how much additional development time would have been required. Given that the M176 does not provide additional oil flow beyond a genuine Motorcraft OEM part, I see no reason to invest in this Melling M176 part unless your pump has failed. It only gets a 3 for its average, high price for a third-party aftermarket product, albeit for less money than a Motorcraft genuine part. I would only buy it if your pump is really out of control and you want to save some money compared to a Motorcraft OEM part.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Upgradeable
