It worked great the first time but didn't get hot the second time - next day. I removed the tip and found the heating element was cracked. I buy quality tools and take good care of them, I have never dropped or mishandled this iron. I can only guess that it was roughly handled during transport, it had a micro tear which eliminated it the first time I used it when it got hot. I could forgive all of this, but Hakko refuses to honor his own guarantee. When I first contacted them they told me this is not covered and that I would have to pay for shipping, labor and parts. I sent them a copy of their warranty which specifically states that the heating elements for the FX models are covered by a 12 month warranty. They replied that I could ship it and they may or may not cover it with a guarantee. Hakko pride themselves on their customer service and based on my experience with them I can say my iron is going to waste and I will buy a fake one of their older models instead. Why buy Hakko when it's unreliable and they don't offer their own warranty? You might as well save money and buy a cheap, unreliable fake, the result will be the same, but at least you won't spend extra money on a brand that doesn't meet the declared requirements.
