It heats up quickly from the moment you turn it on until it reaches the desired temperature. takes seconds instead of minutes and heats up from 400F to 930F, ideal for electrical work. I bought replacement tips to increase the iron's efficiency for specific tasks and my only regret is that Hakko doesn't include the D16 instead of the D08 that comes with the iron. It worked great the first time but didn't get hot the second time - next day. I removed the tip and found the heating element was cracked. I buy quality tools and take good care of them, I have never dropped or mishandled this iron. I can only guess that it was roughly handled during transport, it had a micro tear which eliminated it the first time I used it when it got hot.
