These light gold flashlights already have a battery. All you have to do is rip off a piece of tape and turn on the toggle switch. They emit very little light. I ordered warm gold that has a little shimmer. You actually look cute. I bought 12 and 12 shepherd hooks and lined them up either side of the trail. I also bought lights, but they look more "finished". Too bad each lantern has to be turned on and off every night: a remote control would be great but I don't see how that would be possible given the design. I can see myself using them for years in the backyard, along the driveway for special occasions, in various configurations on the lawn. All in all, apart from the inherent urge to remember to turn them off every night, I'm very glad I bought them.
