Review on Bilstein 33185569 5100 Shock Absorber by Scott Wallace

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent choice for front shock replacement

Awarded five stars for city, highway and off-road handling. Front-wheel drive is a four-leaf Suburban 4x4, the last square body to feature four front shocks from the factory. I removed the four front shocks and installed a few myself, simply to turn the feel of a hard hit into a smooth ride. The whole character of my truck has changed! Get real driving fun! I can't say enough about this Bilstein 5100 series. A note: These K5-series Suburbans weigh about 5200 pounds with the SB engine, and these shocks are rated for off-road damping, which means you'll find your truck leaning a little and a little in corners bounces, but they are cushioned for proper rebound when deployed by appointment. The advantage is the phenomenal absorption of ruts and bumps on any surface. If you want a hard ride, don't buy it. If you have a reliable front axle truck and want a nice ride around town and great off-road feel with little compromise on body roll and spring, look no further than these affordable replacement parts.

Pros
  • Self-adjusting valve with idler pulley
Cons
  • Fairly OK, but...
