This has a smooth glass finish that makes everything look expensive. It heats up very quickly as you can see in my video. I did not test the heating accuracy. I wonder if this can vary depending on the type of material in the pot. They include a magnet to see if your pan is working, but magnets stick to some things better than others. Maybe it just affects how fast it heats up? I do not know. I used an enameled cast iron casserole to test this. Butter and butter melted very quickly at 175 and then started to burn. If you're using cast iron, you might only need to turn it on and off when you're frying onions. I put the oil and butter on the stove and cooked the onion there. So it is great for boiling water. Most notably that it heats up to 200 (in 25Β°F increments) so you can just cook it. My other induction stovetop we only use for boiling water for coffee because induction is faster than gas to get down to 100F which may work better for pots that require a low heat. It has different levels and a setting of 210 where the water is still boiling. I have a feeling that none of these portable induction devices are as accurate - again, it could be the material of the cooking utensils. However, I will be using this in an apartment where there is no stove and I can get it to work. Cast iron retains heat for some time, so an on/off approach wouldn't be the worst thing. I've tried several of these portable burners over the years and have found that they all work best for boiling water with a good kettle or saucepan, but they can all be used with a little trick to cook other dishes if they do are decent. This one is definitely worth it!
