Review on 🤕 Shock Doctor Men's Shoulder Support Brace: Prevent AC Sprains, Promote Healing, Ideal for Rotator Cuff Injuries & Moderate Separations - Single by Kirt Phillips

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Cannot heal/maintain/improve acromioclavicular separation, causes no pain, smells a little

- Wound. The best these and other braces can do is increase your proprioception (the sense of your arm/shoulder moving relative to your body) and the pulling/pulling you feel, which in turn gives you unconscious signals, that you might use it too. too much force or rotation of the shoulder/arm. If you think that it will "save” you from injury or "strengthen” your shoulder, you lie (and I was wrong) deeply mistaken. If you want to wear a corset instead of a bandage shortly (days/weeks) after the AC breakup to "remind" you not to move it or try to do too much with it, that's fine. Duct tape works for this too, as does any compression fabric. In retrospect, having spoken to several podiatrists/doctors/physiotherapists, I would like to be more aggressive with icing, especially immediately (minutes/hours) after an injury. I would also like to take the immobilization more seriously in the first three weeks. If these straps make you think you can return to a moderate tension/weight, then they do more harm than good. Simply give up movement/tension completely for at least 3 weeks. If you have an AC dissection, it's because you've severely sprained or torn one or more ligaments. Torn, they can never recover. And in adults, sprained ligaments take weeks to months to heal. These straps do not actually secure the shoulder and therefore cannot allow torn ligaments to heal. Complete no-load/weight-bearing motion after 3-4 weeks with or without a belt/retainer will do more to prevent joint freezing than fusion/fixation and immediate return to daily activities. Also, the neoprene on this one smells like burnt rubber so I can't wear it 24/7 or even daily after 2 weeks. Made me feel like I was doing "something" when I really didn't need to do anything.

Pros
  • Anatomically designed for use on left and right shoulder
Cons
  • Functionality
