I was looking for comfortable grips for my 1960's touring bike. They in white seemed like the perfect compromise between original looks and comfort, but the flange on the soldered end struck me as odd, like it was on the wrong end. I took a 7/8 hole saw and used it to hand cut the end, pressed it against the handlebars and twist grip, Sturmey Archer 3 speed derailleur, then decided to cut the last piece off to open it up to cut the correct length for the front derailleur. and position of the handbrake lever. A pair of white rubber end caps completed the installation.
