Review on Van Ness Control Translucent Enclosed by Mindi Gefroh

We bought this box when our old box was too worn to even give a thorough cleaning. It was the same brand (Van Ness) and we were happy with the quality of our old box so we looked for a new one from the same company. First, it's a very big box. Ask about the bruise on my shin because it took me a while to remember there was a big box in the hallway! LOL Our two cats share a box and that thing is really big. There is enough space for our cats to stand up, roll over, bend over, write their memoirs or read a magazine while we are there. , I filled it with half her current stuff (meaning the one in the old box, with some crumbs from yesterday's fall) and half the new one to get her used to it. We did NOT use the flap door, both because of our location of the box (in the small hallway next to the bedroom door - we don't have much space) and because our big cat is afraid to touch anything. We think he'll freak out when the door on his mech slams shut and he might stop using the box. I kept the door but I very much doubt we'll use it. Translucency isn't as bad as I thought. By that I mean that because of the transparency, maybe we need to see how everyone is doing their own thing and also what they are doing. As it turns out, the main thing you see is the shadow inside the box and the trash layer. That's all. I think both cats love the extra space as even our larger cat can easily stand up if she wants to. The entrance is higher than our old box (which slopes down slightly). This can be an issue if you have a cat with limited mobility but at the moment this is not an issue for any of our 5 and 6 year old cats. I like the higher entrance because now MUCH less garbage is being thrown out. . This is a win-win situation. Now I know this isn't the place to review sellers, but I should mention that if you buy this from PetCareRX, be prepared to not only wait a while for the box, but your fingers crossed as well to press what state it arrives in. Revain spoiled me with the expectation of great customer service and careful packaging. I sometimes forget that this is not the standard for all sellers. Our box arrived in very poor condition. A piece of tape on top almost came off. A loop was missing completely. This wasn't a major issue for us, but if it was in a spot where the lid latch was necessary, we would have issues. It was really amazing to see how carelessly this item was packed and shipped. Shame on our seller. It's not that I don't get no stars depending on the seller. But Van Ness is a great cat house! I give one star because of the questionable quality of the plastic. This is MUCH thinner plastic than our previous box. Our other one could lift the bottom even when it was full of trash and cat. This one bends easily and will never survive being picked up with debris. It's not thin on its own, but it's not the thick box we used to have. I would never pick up a box with junk in it. I was actually surprised at how thin the plastic was for the price. I left our old one for another week in case it should die right away. Although it appears very thin, it has so far withstood jumping and clawing cats with no problem. Location of the litter box, both cats use it with no problems and it seems easier to clean. (We just take the lid off the box and scoop it out.) Maybe our old one is just scratched and pitted with age and use, but this one is still nice and smooth. Anyway we are glad we got this size and I was glad to see we got the same color as listed.
