I like this leash. I tied one end to the back door, and yes I use it almost like a tie, but not like that. Most of the time I tie my dog to him to potty outside (I live in an apartment complex) so there is no fenced or gated yard and he goes about his business with no problems and then comes home. I'm in control of course, but I don't have to be next to him if that makes sense. Also to eat (he is a Beagle so SUPER Dirty Eater). He eats outside. I put his food bowl in the backyard and tie him to a leash so he doesn't run away during/after eating. So yes, he eats, finishes his meal, I wipe his mouth, and then he comes back. I can't comment on them for walking, swimming or whatever people use these leashes for, but on what I use them for. , it's really great, PERFECT length! I would recommend and buy again if I ever need it again!
