I bought this thermostat to use in my wife's 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer with a naturally aspirated 2.0 liter engine. Not fully trusting the Revain parts reference charts, I went straight to the chart provided on Stant's own website. Your own table recommended this thermostat (14719). Since only one naturally aspirated engine was offered for this model this model year, it is impossible for me to make a wrong choice from the chart. The thermostat arrived in a stant box with the correct part number, but the thermostat did not physically fit the 2003 Lancer thermostat housing. Since the factory service manual recommends that the rocker arm thermostat not be mounted in any position other than straight up, the thermostat could not be mounted by simply rotating it inside the case. Initially I thought maybe the wrong thermostat came in the right packaging, so I emailed Stunt with the suggestion that they put the part number directly on the thermostat to avoid end-user confusion. They replied that it was too confusing as apparently the same thermostat gets a different part number depending on the dealer under whose name the thermostat is sold. For example, NAPA sells Stant thermostats under its own name and labels them with entirely different part numbers. Excellent. That doesn't mean that Stant thermostats sold under their own name can't be stamped. Their email went on to say that I was forced to use the Autozone thermostat (I had no choice, it was already late Saturday night and Autozone was the only parts dealer who could order it Saturday to Sunday (ie the local Mitsu dealer it was closed until Monday and the wife needed the car to drive to work Monday morning) was not made by Stant and was probably imported. I thought that was funny when the stant box proudly announced that 14719 was made in China! After carefully checking the links to the product images on Stant's website, I no longer believe I received the wrong thermostat in the right packaging. Now I think the Stant reference sheet is just recommending the wrong part. No longer able to trust Stunt to recommend the right parts for my car, I will now buy all future thermostats direct from the dealer and sleep easy knowing that this is the right choice. This episode caused me a lot of inconveniences that I don't want to repeat. I paid about $17 for this thermostat, it was only $1 more at the dealer. As I bought this thermostat long before this project (this machine also had the hoses replaced) I will not be fully compensated for the return. It was CRUCIAL that the parts consultant suggested the correct part. Thank you Stan!
