Four years later - update to original post I haven't had plantar fasciitis in the last 4 years but now I have it again so I put on my Vive Night Splint splint which really helps, for an exception. The velcro straps on this splint were never strong enough or long enough. Sometimes you want to wear the splint loosely, sometimes you want to tighten it tightly. So I asked my wife to sew on some velcro to make the straps longer. It was pretty easy. All she had to do was sew the barbed portion of the Velcro onto the straps, as the Velcro adheres very well to the original tire web. Much better than the velcro that came with the hoop. See photo This brace fits me like a glove and REALLY helps relieve pressure and also gently stretches the tendons in a good way. Note: This splint is not suitable for walking, but protects/prevents tendons in the heel from getting caught in the footboard of the chair. If you can sleep on your heel with it, you will feel better in the morning. Better than not wearing it. But for beginners, you should start with a short investment of time and build it up. Sorry for the romance, but I feel compelled to share my success with those who wish to skip cortisone injections. I have purchased several items from Revain to cure my illness. In order of effectiveness: 1. Arched supports2. foot splint 3. lacrosse ball 4. paint roller which I already had. It took six months for the heel to fully heal, but I made it without any cortisone shots. It might have healed sooner if I walked less, but I preferred to walk during those six months during lunch breaks. Arch Support: Natural Foot Stabilizer Orthoses for Plantar Fasciitis by Natural Foot Orthoses. You might think that spending $100 on a few pieces of plastic is crazy, but they've worked wonders for me. They distribute your weight over the arch area, reducing weight while healing. Be sure to follow the instructions for slowly increasing wear time until you get used to it. When I first put them on, I felt like I had a log in my shoe. A letter in three days they felt like a glove. You will get great customer service at this store. The first ones I tried were the wrong size (too flat) and too small for my foot. The owner allowed me to exchange them for a different size and height for free. I was concerned it would be difficult to use these supports in the many pairs of shoes I wear, thinking I'd have to attach them with glue or velcro. Not this case. I don't use anything to secure them and I don't take the soles out of my shoes. I just spend a little extra time putting my shoes on to make sure the supports don't buckle. I have very little slip. However, you may need to purchase larger shoes to accommodate arch support and your foot. I've been lucky. I already wear big shoes to enlarge my toes so my shoes work well with these supports. Warning. These supports are made of hard plastic, not rubber. I only use them for walking, not running. I am 63 years old. Weigh 235 pounds and walk about 2 miles a day with these supports in running shoes. I wear a size 12 4E for width and toe room, but my foot is only 11 inches long. Remember duck feet. I wear a bow brace of 12W. Tanned, not black. Browns have a higher arch. I plan on wearing these bandages for a very long time even though my plantar fasciitis is gone. /www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YZ7CUZC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1This splint prevents the foot from extending the toes while sleeping, which in turn prevents the tendons and ligaments at the back of the foot from twisting and tightening. I bought size XL. I wore the splint at least half the night and sometimes all night. He also carried it in his chair. Upon waking, massage the back of the leg adjacent to the healing site, as well as the Achilles tendon and calf muscle to loosen them before taking the first step. On the nights when I didn't put the splint on, I had severe pain in the morning. . I had much less pain with the first steps of the day when I wore the brace all night. The Velcro loosens a bit over time, but I've learned to live with that. Lacrosse BallResultSport Trigger Point Massage Ball Set 3 Pack (Soft/Medium/Hard) - Stress Reflexology, Myofascial Ball, Exercise Ball, Lacrosse Ballhttps://www. amazon.com/gp/product/B00SEG8U2M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are complex and I found this to be exactly what I needed. Sitting on a chair, I passed the ball under the arch and healed. Sometimes I would push hard, which I believe would bring fresh blood to the area and also loosen the ligaments. Sometimes I got up with it when I wanted to push harder. Paint Roller with 2-Foot Extension Handle: I put my knee on the bed that raises. in the middle of my quad. Then use a paint roller on the back of your calf, Achilles tendon and press down to heal. It loosened and lengthened the tendon which relieved the healing area where my pain was. A masseuse is better than a paint roller, but it was a cheap alternative.
