I never ride without one now, although I would suggest taking the large 20g CO2 cartridges just for some peace of mind as they don't weigh much more than the standard 12g cartridges, this is especially important , if you have a 650B, 29 or larger tires as 12 gram cartridges may not be enough to get the pressure you want.
