I purchased a Xantrex PowerHub1800 in 2009 as a UPS for frequent power outages to power my sump pump and refrigerator. Since then it has only been used once to power the fridge during a power outage. In 2012, error code E09 appeared, indicating a ground fault open circuit. Xantrex Technical Support suggested I check the voltage on my batteries and replace them. The voltage was too low so I swapped the batteries out without trying to charge them with another charger (gross mistake). Even with new batteries I got E09 due to ground fault. This time, Xantrex Technical Support indicated that the device's circuitry was faulty and recommended replacing the entire device. For real? Is the device inexplicably failing and is it recommended to replace it? I removed the device boards and found that one of the boards was shorted to an aluminum heatsink. The instrumentation and electronics engineer who looked at this suspected that the transistor had blown, and the man-hours required to repair it far exceeded the cost of replacing it. Too bad I can't upload photos of the burned card. I will not replace the PowerHub 1800 and will not recommend any Xantrex products. As I still have 4 working 430Ah batteries I recently bought a separate charger and inverter.
