Review on πŸ“» Mcbazel SF401 Plus Radio Portable Frequency Counter Meter – 27Mhz to 3000Mhz with CTCCSS DCS Decoder by Chris Meers

Revainrating 3 out of 5

good point - it is cheap. Bad point - it is cheap.

Meh would sum it up. This - like any review of "cheap Chinese junk" products - has to be understood in terms of what you pay. For $100 or $500, this thing would be horrible trash. For what this is going for, it is pretty amazing it works at all!A nice surprise was the built in and pretty well charged battery. I put the long antenna on and tried it out. You have to be *close*. This is NOT an RF sniffer to go find a hidden transmitter or test a radio from across the street. I tested it with a couple of known good radios and it detected the frequency and tones correctly.Using it to align a radio was a little tricky - sometimes it was good and sometimes WAY off, like 70 MHz instead of 150! It also could use more digits in the display.EDIT - there is a setting for that. Between these issues and the unit feeling relatively fragile, this is not remotely close to being up to daily commercial work. For quick checks of a radio, well it can do that. I got what I paid for and it worked to fix an issue, so I think 3 stars is about right.

Pros
  • simple and easy
Cons
  • Not as user-friendly as other frequency counter options
