Review on πŸ§€ Cuisipro Coarse Rasp V-Grater: Achieve Perfect Shreds with Stainless Steel Precision by Elizabeth Gibson

Good but not great (Bug)

(Note - this review is for the Fine Rasp version). I've been a Microplane fan for a long time, but I'm always happy about another kitchen helper. so i was excited to find it. As the name suggests, this is a good grater, but it does have a few drawbacks to consider before buying. Pros: - Spicy! Definitely not a shop version where they poke a few holes in the metal and hope for the best. The teeth on this thing are actually shaped like teeth with a shaped blade on the end that easily slices through even fibrous materials like ginger and coconut. Firmly. The handle feels solid, maybe even too heavy, and is knurled for a better grip (no plastic handle that breaks over time and I'm looking at you Oxo). The side rails that support the grille surface are strong and won't sag anytime soon. - Big. The entire device is thirteen centimeters long, of which about six are in the usable slat area. The rail at the end stabilizes the grater on the bowl or cutting board. All is well - V-shaped lace pattern. This isn't just a gimmick - it actually seems easier to store food in the middle of the grater. Comes with a blade cover that can be folded over and used for measuring. A nice touch, although it only works on dry foods like hard cheeses and is useless on veggies (see image). Cons: - Heavy. Reliability is good, but the grater is almost too heavy. Great when you want stability but really need to place it on a surface to rub rather than just hold it in your hand. - No shuttle. The downside of Sharp! is that it applies to both fingers and carrots. The demo video shows the chef wearing a cut resistant glove, but a shuttle to hold food and protect fingers would be much simpler. - Slightly confusing cover. The lid looks like it will slide open at the end, but if you try that it will sit almost all the way down and then hang at the end of the rail. It actually snaps on the front. Good. No hanging loop. Personal preference, YMMV.- Spot welded mesh panel. The grate plate isn't wrapped around supports (which would make it much more expensive to manufacture) or embedded in plastic (which causes durability issues and I'm looking at your micro schematic), but folded and spot welded to the grate. inside the support rails. This creates a fairly large dirt trap on the back of the grater (see image). With gadgets, as in life, all creativity is about compromise. - Grater is of course made in China. Overall I think this is a good mid-range device. I'll probably stick with my microplane mainly because of the shuttle issue.
