Review on 45mm Focal Length Google Cardboard VR Kit - ๐Ÿ” Easy-to-Follow Printed Instructions, Numbered Tabs, NFC & Free Head-strap (Box Color) by Russ Conrad

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good and should last 8 weeks - but heck it's paper - not so convenient for long term use

One of the best cheap cardboard blocks. I find the magnetic pickup very good. Mine lasted about 2 months before it just got crushed once or many times and gave up the VR ghost. Pros: Good magnetic hold and good construction. Cons: Cheap, not very good glass with a lot of optical distortions and fixed IA (centre-to-centre distance) so you can't adjust them. I've seen a few shows with it with good results. Wasn't impressed at all with the NYT shows. There were some really cool space movies and a Pluto VR app that was educational and good. While watching a WW1 VR show (which was interesting since I didn't know WW1 was 3D) I noticed that the optical distortion at the edge of the field of view required me to look "down tendedโ€ to see the headlines to be able to read them clearly, which also means that using such optics for a long period of time will give you a headache as they are highly distorted (think bad glasses). For the money they are good. I have 4 different viewers and this one definitely had the best magnetic capture of them all. Worth the money but not very comfortable for long viewing

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Modern
