I was a little apprehensive about installing this on drywall but the instructions were clear and I had the right tools to do it. Drywall anchors are not recommended, although I suspect you could if you had heavy-duty anchors. I mounted directly into the stud. Be careful when drilling the pilot hole as you could knock the screw out of position and tilt the bracket. The gas weight adjustment is a great feature to adjust the movement to the weight of the monitor being held.
