This is a different type of motion detector. Rather than using an electric eye, it uses patented technology that detects changes in the Earth's magnetic field. For most people, this means that it detects vehicles. We live in the middle of the forest and don't like it when people surprise us on the doorstep. This gives us a warning about the arrival of the vehicle. On the other hand, our forests are home to many wild animals, from squirrels to foxes to lynxes. And deer. Especially deer. A conventional motion sensor would alert any chipmunk and possibly a falling leaf. We never slept enough. This motion detector ignores these creatures because they don't affect the magnetic field (unless they get very close or rub against it). Setup is very easy. By default, the receiver (the noisemaker in your house) wants to connect to the sensor (device in the driveway). As long as your sensor is on (it can take a day to get you there with a solar pack), the receiver will tell you the pairing steps via voice. It couldn't be easier. Toggle the switch and wait for confirmation. Flick the switch again and you're in business. One small caveat: we had a broken sensor the first time around and struggled to find a replacement. Customer service is fast and responsive, but also resists exchanges. We stubbornly had to find a replacement, but in the end we won. However, this appears to be a well-designed and well-made device, so I think the chances of an issue occurring are slim. Conclusion: I would definitely buy again or expand our existing network if we had a need. The smallest receiver supports four sensors if you need something more complex than we did. They have many types of sensors for different situations, including one that alerts you to mailbox activity.
