I needed a small cage to bring my rat to the hotel. I already have a cloth tote bag so I had to put a smaller wire cage inside for added protection so she couldn't bite through. I was lucky enough to accidentally get a nice blue one. However, this cage is thinner than expected and I will come back because he can't even turn in it, but I really like this cage and will order the medium. Was hoping a small one would fit but no chance for a rat. However, for small animals it will be simply amazing. This cage is only 8.5 inches long and 4.5 inches wide at the base. It measures 10 x 5 3/4 inches at its widest point where the base attaches to the wires. The assembled cage is 5.5 inches high. It also has a detachable handle and comes with a plastic pole. It opens from the top and the only downside is that it's actually difficult to open/close, it kind of gets stuck, you have to make a lot of effort. The miniature size of the cage is a brilliant idea, I've never seen cages that small anywhere else on the market. For size reference, my rat weighs 16 ounces and is 2 years old. This cage is ideal for transporting mice or hamsters. Spacing between wires 0.5 inch. The wire part is foldable and easy to assemble.
