I received and installed it yesterday and it seems to be working as advertised. I checked all the features, took out the microSD card and put it in my Android tablet to watch the video and it seems clear and bright even at night with no gaps between files. When first turned on, the device creates four folders on the supplied SD card - NVIDEO (for normal 3-minute video clips), PVIDEO (for saved or emergency video clips), DCIM (for snapshots taken from videos) and SYSTEM (where updates are firmware to be installed by the user to complete this process). I immediately checked Transcend's website for an updated firmware and there was a new file available - 1.09 vs 1.06 on my device. It is downloaded as a .zip file, which extracts to open the firmware's help files and .bin file. This is copied to the SYSTEM folder on the SD card. After reinstalling the card in the recorder and switching on the device (in the car, NOT from the USB cable to the computer), a new item "Update firmware” appears at the bottom of the "Settings” menu. Follow the instructions there and you should be good to go in minutes. The notes on the new firmware say, among other things, that it improves the resolution, and in fact it seems to be better than the old version. Other things I did were set the date and time and changed the date format to M/D/Y and the time format to AM/PM. All other settings looked fine as they are. The included power cord was quite long, at least 10 feet. That was enough for me to thread it over the headliner, under the A-pillar trim (after loosening 2 screws and pulling out a bit), under the door frame weatherstrip, under the glove box and finally up through a small hole in the right front edge of my cup holders a few centimeters from the outlet. I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. There were at least a few yards of string left that I tucked under the cup holders before reattaching them. Just two other things - I took a black sharpie marker and drew over the shiny metal ring around the lens while it's sticking out. like a sore thumb at 50ft and I noticed that there is a repetitive 0.5 second click in the audio during playback. I think maybe it's coming from an external source, noise seeping into the power cord maybe due to the way it's routed. It's okay as that's not exactly the purpose of the device. All in all a very good device that should serve its purpose.
