Functional and fairly attractive
I prefer a deeper tongue under the books, but these are beautiful bookends for lightweight items, and I love that they are pretty enough to show. I don't have to hide that I'm using them. This is wonderful for shelves that aren't yet filled or where I am spacing things in order to include décor items on shelves. Your mileage may vary, for very heavy books with a tendency to tip. It's not what it's built for (look for 'cookbook bookends' if you need something sturdier), but it might just do the trick, anyhow. These little fellows surprised me, in a few cases.
